West Auckland, NZ – Tapasā joined the vibrant celebration of Aktive Zone’s end of year showcase, marking two years of impactful community engagement. The event, filled with captivating performances and heartfelt acknowledgments, was a testament to the success and growth of Aktive Zone’s diverse programs.
The showcase featured a variety of performances, including hip hop, Māori waiata, Tongan dance, Samoan siva, and both youth and adult Siva Afi (fire knife dance). The performers, ranging from children to adults, displayed their skills with pride, entertaining a crowd of family and friends.
Jo Armstrong, founder of Aktive Zone, expressed profound gratitude to Tapasā for their unwavering support. Co-founder Ruta Tai was called up at the end of the night to receive a heartfelt thank you from Jo.
“Ruta, so much appreciation for you. Thank you for encouraging me to keep bringing visions to life. I am forever grateful,” Jo said, acknowledging the crucial role Tapasā played in supporting Aktive Zone’s journey.
The event celebrated the achievements of 2023, from introducing new classes to seeing an increase in youth participation. Aktive Zone has offered an array of activities, including multi-sport and recreational classes such as touch basketball and indoor netball, as well as performing arts classes in hip hop, Samoan siva, instrumental music, and Siva Afi.
TahiMana, a renowned group in the Siva Afi community, also graced the event, lighting up the center with their exceptional performance and leadership.
Jo Armstrong emphasized the importance of the community’s role in Aktive Zone’s success. “This event was held not only to celebrate the youth but also to honor all the parents and children, and the community of Aktive Zone. Thank you for investing a little bit of time through your week so that your young ones can create memories to last a lifetime,” she said.
The dedication of the tutors and trainers, who volunteer their time to guide the youth, was also acknowledged. Their commitment has helped the children build self-confidence, resilience, and social skills, making a lasting impact on their lives.
As the night drew to a close, the sense of community and shared achievement was palpable. The event not only showcased the talents of the youth but also highlighted the collective effort that makes Aktive Zone a thriving and supportive environment.
